Learn About the Barbara Jordan Career Center

The Barbara Jordan Career Center is a dynamic hub for career and technical education within Houston ISD, offering high school students from nine area campuses—including Furr, Heights, Houston, Kashmere, North Forest, Northside, Washington, Wheatley, and Yates—the opportunity to explore hands-on career pathways while remaining enrolled at their home schools. Students attend the career center for half the day, either in the morning or afternoon, and receive transportation to and from the facility. The career center features a wide range of programs such as Automotive Technology, Construction, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Health Science, Welding, and new additions like Cybersecurity, HVAC, and Distribution & Logistics. Many pathways offer industry-recognized certifications and dual-credit opportunities through Houston Community College, helping students graduate both college- and career-ready.

Classes at the career center are in-person.  All students scheduled into classes at the career center are provided district transportation to attend each day the classes are on their schedule.  Students are not permitted to drive to the career center.
